Y'all I must say Katherine Applegate has done it again! 


I have just finished reading The One and Only Bob and this book does not disappoint! This book is told from the point of view of Robert, Bob, the dog. The courageous efforts and humble begins for Bob are told in great detail. As a dog lover, I immediately fell in love with Bob and after hearing his horrific upbringing and abandonment as a young puppy I was hooked and had to follow Bob in hopes his future is better than his past. I will not post any spoilers of course, but I LOVE a book that gets me hooked immediately. This book will entertain children of various levels and reading abilities. My 7-year-old is looking forward to reading this book aloud with me this weekend. My 11-year-old finished the book in one day! 
This book would be great to use to compare and contrast characters, as a vocabulary lesson or to discuss cultural diversity. Using this book, you could have a wonderful creative writing exercise picking any of the events and asking students to write about the same experiences from the point of another character. 

I am already hoping for another hit book from the point of view of Julia. I would love to read more about her vantage point of all these events. My oldest daughter is hopeful for a book entitled The One and Only Ruby or The One and Only Stella. Texas Reading Lists!

Hello Readers!  I am so excited to dive into our Texas Reading Lists! I will be posting and giving MY opinions on each book that I read. I do not want to sway you into not reading any particular book,  but I will give you my honest opinion of the books. I would LOVE for you to read the books for yourself and provide your feedback as well.  I will do my best to read as many of the books as I can and I know my own children are excited to read them too! Please ask your librarian if you need help locating a book on the list or feel free to request the book through an interlibrary loan through your school library or the public library. The books can be VERY popular with teachers, staff, and students so please be patient, it will be worth the wait! The Canyon's Edge

 Hello Readers,  Have no fear I have been lost in some great books lately, as well as the beginning of the year teacher business. But, let me tell you about The Canyon's Edge! *Trigger Warning, this book does mention death.* This book, written in verse, is about a young teenage girl's will, determination, overcoming fears, and finding strength within yourself. I was able to read this book right after my eleven-year-old daughter read the book and spoke highly of it herself. I told her it was on my reading list, so I moved it to the top so we could discuss the book together. This was a page-turner. I was constantly finding myself wanting to know what was going to happen next, or if my previous predictions were true. This brought about some great discussions about life, looks, friendships, and sacrifice.  I would suggest this book to anyone who needs some uplifting, needs to be grounded, needs a wake-up call, or needs a good, no, a really good book to read.
